Modern Description: "Signs in the village of Nestane lead to the ""acropolis"" just W of town, with a fine view and a sturdy 4th c. BCE gateway, possibly a Macedonian fortification linked to Philip II's encampment here. Below the acropoli, a fountain, built in 1845 with 600 rubles sent by a Nestani citizen serving in the Russian army, with reused blocks including a 1st c. CE emancipation inscription, has been labeled the Philippeios krene -- actual site of which, allegedly, is slightly to the north.
