Modern Description: Hesychius says the Gyrai are in the Ikarian Sea toward Mykonos (but the Melanteian Skopeloi are different rocks). An inscription, IG XII,5 872 mentions Gyra or Gyrai as a deme of Tinos; Cicero aspired to see the "akra gureon" from Delos, suggesting a location on the south coast of Tinos.
