Modern Description: 'The village of Kalidona lies nine kilometers off the coastal highway. We made several inquiries in the village before we found a native who even knew that there was a “palaiokastro” in the neighborhood. He directed us to a senior citizen, who took us to the southern edge of the town where he pointed out the peak of the hill. The approach is circuitous, descending steeply to a rapidly flowing stream south of the village, then circling to reach the hill. It is difficult to believe that the site would ever have been called a polis. Few people could have lived within the confines of the walls which measure only 53 x 38 yards. The walls are today overgrown, and we saw few tiles or other signs of occupation. The average thickness of the walls, which are made of small stones without mortar (see pi. 129) in the fashion of many terrace walls throughout Greece, is about 1.40 m. A bulldozer had been at work almost up to the area of fortification on the southern side, cutting a road through the forest; but we saw neither in the embankment nor in the fill any trace of sherds. It is only by lack of any other site near Lepreon that this small and remote place has been considered as a candidate for Strabo's Chaa. Certainly, no battle was ever fought under its walls.'
