Modern Description: A signpost on the Kakaletri-Neda road points up the hill to ancient Eira. The dirt road is in good shape (2024). On the hilltop of Ag. Athanasios church, (ca. 875 m) S of Kakaletri village, are substantial remains of a well-built rubble fortification, said to be the acropolis of the Messenian refuge settlement Eira. Gates, towers.
