Modern Description: Guarding the north slope of Kastro hill above Paralia Tyrou, a massive defensive wall of large irregular blocs. Signposted. A faint path leads from the main Argos-Leonideio road directly opposite the Agios Nikolaos church, where a narrow asphalt road leads down to the coast. The walls and square towers are preserved to four meters high in places. The site is untended, however, and the path is difficult. Little pottery, suggesting the actual town of Tyros may have been elsewhere. In the forecourt of the church of the Transfiguration (Metamorphosis) ruins of a Roman building are preserved. S of the modern village of Tyros, on the summit of Profitis Ilias Melanon hill, the sanctuary of Apollo Tyritas which operated from the 8th till the 4th century BC.
