Modern Description: Equivocal identification. The earliest settlement was most probably on the island of Salihadasi in the Bargylian gulf, where there is a walled Classical city. In Hellenistic times it moved to the banks of Lake Göl (now a marsh) and constituted part of Myndus. Only ruins of a Byzantine city are visible there today. The traveller Skylax, who was the first to organize an exploratory expedition to the river Indus, on the orders of Darius I in 517 BC, originated from Caryanda.
