Modern Description: From the late 6th c. BCE, a pipeline brought water from springs near the Flerio sanctuary to the capital of Naxos, a course of 11 km. It included a tunnel discovered in 2004 NE of Mili. In the first century CE the pipeline was replaced by a masonry channel coated with waterproof plaster. In the 4th century CE this masonry channel was replaced, using square flat bricks. The aqueduct remained in function until the 8th c CE. Several sections are signposted, including at the Ag. Stefanos EC basilica, in Ag. Thalelaios village, and the tunnel entrance near Flerio.
