Modern Description: Originally a Carian city on the islet of Şehir Oğlu or Şehir Ada, near Tasbükü. A member of the Athenian League, it was captured by the Spartan admiral Lysander in the late 5th century BC and was completely Hellenized in the 4th century BC. One of the most important demes in the Rhodian Peraia. A fortified enceinte with towers inside and the foundations of the Doric temple of Apollo Kedreus, which was later converted into a Christian church have been located. The city's theatre is in good condition. To the E are ruins of buildings while on a terrace to the W is the agora. A cemetery of Hellenistic and Roman times with sarcophagi and built vaulted-roofed graves.
On the shore near the modern village of Gelibölü an ancient pottery workshop, ancient terraces and forts have been found. The fort at Koka Kale, which is most probably Carian-Rhodian, is important. A Rhodian fort on a hill near the village of Ferek at Kizilhısar or Kizilasar.
