Modern Description: At the SW corner of Kalyvia Sochas at the foot of Taygetos, inscriptions long pointed to the presence of a sanctuary of Eleusinian Demeter and Kore, use of which peaked in the early Roman imperial period. Following catastrophic floods in 1947, a rescue excavation was undertaken in 1949 by the British School. Inscribed marble blocks from monumental buildings, thrones, and many miniature votive vessels exposed by the floods were recorded. The site is signposted (2018) but apparently nothing is visible. South of a ruined church of Ag. Sophia, ca. 150 ENE of the medieval tower on the ridge. (see Cook in BSA 1950
