Modern Description: On the golf course of Costa Navarino, foundations and rooftiles of an early archaic to hellenistic temple with offerings to a female divinity, excavated 2008-10, not visitable. Also under the present golf course, geoarchaeologists detected and core-sampled a rectangular basin, now full of silt and unobtrusive, which Eberhard Zangger identified as an artificial harbour basin built in the Mycenaean period athwart the Selas river. If correct, this is the first major harbor work identified from the period. It would have served as the harbor for the palace at Pylos, 5 km NE. The size of the basin was about 300 x 200 meters, with a lake upstream intended to reduce the problem of siltation.
