Modern Description: Below the site of modern Oitylos, on the northern coast of Limeni Bay, is the modern settlement of Karavostasi. At the eastern end of the town on private property, excavations took place in 2009 by the 5th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, which revealed a Roman architectural complex as well as a late Roman tomb with undecorated pottery.965 The architectural remains dated from the 1st – 6th centuries CE, and included a 2nd-3rd century CE mosaic floor with geometric designs. The excavations also revealed a coin hoard of 457 4th century CE copper coins (most date to 355-360 CE; Julian II & Constantine II), suggesting that there was still economic activity in this region at this late date.
