Modern Description:
A narrow stone pathway continues round the promontory. The islet of Psorádia – formerly a leper colony, as its name denotes – is just offshore. After 300m, narrow steps lead up to a 4th century bc, *rock-cut Lycian tomb, carved into the face of the cliff about 30m above water level, with a beautifully proportioned entrance, pilasters, pediment, and architrave with prominent dentils – at once more decorative, but much smaller, than the tomb at Skala Kameirou on Rhodes, and similar to many all over the ancient Lycian coast of Asia Minor. The harmonious design is based on clear and integral proportions. The acroteria of the pediment are eroded but still visible: the threshold and door-jambs are clearly defined, as well as two counterposed indentations for barring the door. Inside, the perimeter is divided horizontally and once vertically (only to the right), to provide small, discrete loculi for burial. The tomb looks east into the sunrise over the mountains of Asia Minor, and across the islets of the archipelago, which seem from here as though they were stepping stones to another land.
