Modern Description: The two islands just off-shore, visible from the peak of Vouno, are Dragonara (south) and Antidragonara (north). Archaeological finds on the latter are providing evidence that it was the home of an important sanctuary to Poseidon ‘Gaieochos' (γαιήοχος, ‘earth-upholding'). A quantity of votive vases and coins with provenance from all corners of the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions show that this minuscule islet was a focus of considerable cultic significance in later Hellenistic times.
