Modern Description: On the hill overlooking the SE part of the Souda Bay, on the road from Chania to Rethymnon. The city had two harbours, Minoa (at Akrotiri on the opposite NE edge of the Souda harbour) and Cisamus. Ruined buildings (8th-6th century BC), an imposing defensive wall, a theatre, vaulted cisterns, baths and a prytaneum of the Roman era, as well as ruins of a Doric double temple of Demeter and other sanctuaries. An ancient cemetery to the W.
Further S, on the slopes o the hill near Stylos Apokoronou, there are Late Minoan remains.
