A Hellenistic and Roman city which is perhaps identified with modern Rethymnon. Roman building remains at the Customs House below Fortetza (where there is a mosaic floor) and in Kiouloubasi Square. A Roman underground monument in the S of the municipal garden. Antiquities from the prefecture of Rethymnon are exhibited in the town's archaeological musuem, which is housed in a building outside the Fortetza fortress.
