Modern Description: In the modern town, cuttings for circular piscinae of the Roman era at the Customs House and an unidentified sanctuary where the Minoa Cinema stands.
A small Hellenistic city has been excavated at Trypitos, on a peninsula 2 km E of Siteia, with houses, a fortified enceinte and a ship shed. This is perhaps Eteia (?), the ancient city of Siteia.
An Archaic sanctuary near the church of the Holy Cross (Timios Stavros), in the locality Anoixi at Roussa Ekklisia, SE of Siteia.
A walled Hellenistic and Roman city, possibly identified with ancient Ambelos, at Xirokampo Zirou. Salt pans of the same period. An archaeological museum in Siteia.
Visible by the church of the Holy Cross near the quay at the harbour are remains of a large Early Christian basilica (late 5th-early 6th century). The greater part lies under modern buildings.
