Modern Description: A Minoan villa of careful construction on a fertile hillock controlling part of the Mesara plain. Built c. 1550 BC, it had a large court, two storeys with external walls of ashlar blocks, a shrine, a portico and rooms with wall-paintings. After its destruction -- probably by an earthquake -- c. 1450 BC it was used as a farmstead. The installations (grape-pressing floor, olive press, pottery kiln) and magazines with large storage jars (pithoi) are preserved in good condition.
